Learn about Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST) with San Francisco, CA dentist

Patients seeking receding gums treatment due to periodontal disease and other conditions who live in the area of San Francisco, CA are welcome to learn about the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique solution with our dedicated dental professional, Dr. Leo Arellano.

The Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique is a specialized, patented treatment for gum recession that was invented by Dr. John Chao. For patients who have gum recession, most may ask about gum grafting. However, this alternative treatment provides a solution that is suture-free and scalpel-free, ensuring a more pleasant experience, faster healing, and amazing results!

The Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique is a procedure that is performed differently than a traditional gum graft. A small hole is made in the gum tissue, and then specialized instruments designed and patented by Dr. John Chao are used to loosen the gum tissue before guiding it carefully over the area of recession. The entire procedure is done quickly and easily in our office without incision and suturing. The procedure provides cosmetic enhancement of the smile with minimal post-operative concerns such as swelling, discomfort, and bleeding.

Conventional Gum Grafting vs Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique

Conventional Gum Grafting vs Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique
Video Transcript

Introducing Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation’s Pinhole surgical technique. Before, conventional gum grafting required cutting tissue from the roof of the mouth. The gum is then cut over the area of the recession and lifted. The tissue from the palette is placed over the recessions. Once complete, sutures hold the graft in place during healing. Now with the new revolutionary Chao pinhole gum rejuvenation, gum recession is corrected without cutting or stitches. This new process begins with a tiny entry point that is made in the gum. Then a special dental instrument is place through the pinhole to free the gums with gentle movements. Once free, the gums are guided down into a healthy position. When the recessed gums are corrected, tiny collagen strips are placed inside to help stabilize the gums. Incredibly the pinhole heals rather quickly and often overnight. When complete, the receding gums are corrected with a minimally invasive treatment that is quick, easy and instantly pleasing.

Gum recession is the loss of gums and the underlying bone due to shrinking tissue. The most common reason this occurs is due to advanced periodontitis, or “periodontal disease.” It can leave areas of the tooth exposed, resulting in a higher risk of cavities, root sensitivity, and a smile that is negatively impacted in terms of cosmetics. Other reasons why the gum tissues may be receding are genetic or hereditary factors, abrasive and aggressive tooth brushing habits with even soft toothbrushes, and even teeth clenching or grinding habits and improper bite alignment or function.
To reduce the risk of experiencing gum recession, patients are urged to maintain a healthy smile. They can visit Dr. Leo Arellano for more than just pinhole surgery. His practice offers a wide range of general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry procedures that patients can use to achieve the smile of their dreams! However, when problems arise, his practice is also equipped to provide the treatment necessary to achieve better oral health and wellness. The Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique® is just one of many treatment options available at his state-of-the-art practice for optimum care! When patients take care of their smile and visit their dentist regularly, they greatly reduce the chances of developing periodontal disease which can cause infection and gum recession, as well as bone and tooth loss. They also learn proper gentle yet thorough tooth brushing techniques that also contribute to gum recession.
Gum recession is often a symptom of gum disease, genetics, bite factors, and/or improper toothbrushing techniques and can leave the roots of the teeth exposed and leave the tooth with less bone support. In doing this, it increases the risk of problems such as tooth decay and root sensitivity because the tissue is no longer there to protect the natural tooth surfaces. In order to enjoy lasting dental wellness and a beautiful smile for life, patients consider treatments to repair the gum line such as gum grafting or the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique.
Patients often ask about the benefits of undergoing the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique® versus conventional gum grafting procedures. While standard grafting is an effective treatment, it does require cutting and sutures. To enjoy a better experience, many patients choose to move forward with the pinhole surgical method instead. This eliminates the need for soft tissue grafting and donor tissue, as the patient’s own gum tissue is rearranged to cover the areas in need. Patients experience less downtime and healing, reduced bleeding and swelling, and have an overall positive treatment that is far less invasive.
This particular treatment boasts:
  • Less discomfort
  • Faster recovery and healing
  • No sutures
  • No scalpels
  • No donor tissue required
  • Natural-looking results
  • Long-lasting results
